The Consulate General of India, Birmingham organised the Viksit Bharat Run 2026 on 26 September 2026 at Edgbaston Reservoir, Birmingham, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora, community leaders, families, young people and Friends of India for a 3 km community run.

The event sought to connect the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 with community participation, fitness, wellbeing, environmental awareness and collective responsibility. Edgbaston Reservoir, a designated Local Nature Reserve surrounded by water, woodland and grassland, provided a fitting setting for the event.

The programme commenced with registration and distribution of T-shirts, followed by a welcome address by Consul General Dr M. Venkatachalam Murugan. In his remarks, the Consul General highlighted the significance of the Run in celebrating India's journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047, the vision of a developed India by the centenary of Independence.

The Run also highlighted the importance of Sabka Prayas – collective effort and public participation – in contributing to India's development journey. Participants from across the Midlands took part in the 3 km route around the reservoir, promoting fitness, community spirit and a healthy lifestyle.

The programme included remarks and felicitations by the Consul General for Cllr Dr Nitish Raut, Mayor of Sutton Coldfield; Cllr Sardul Marwa, Mayor of Solihull; and Insp Sefton Bednarski.

As part of #SewaPakhwada2026 and #SevaSankalpMahotsav, the Consul General felicitated dignitaries and members of the media team by presenting saplings in support of the Government of India's #EkPedMaKeNaam initiative, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility and a greener, healthier way of life.

The event brought together professionals, families, young people and community representatives in a celebration that combined health, fitness, community participation and environmental consciousness. The scenic surroundings of Edgbaston Reservoir further underlined the importance of sustainable living and wellbeing.

The programme concluded with the felicitation of the fastest finishers of the 3 km Run. Certificates were also presented to participants, recognising their participation and contribution to the event.

The Viksit Bharat Run 2026 served as a community platform to celebrate India's aspirations for 2047 while emphasising that development is strengthened through the active participation and collective efforts of people and communities.
