Protected/Restricted Area Permit

Foreign nationals intending to visit any Protected or Restricted Area in India are required to obtain the requisite Protected Area Permit (PAP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP) from the competent authority, in addition to a valid Indian visa. Applicants are advised to obtain the necessary permit/clearance at least 30 days prior to the proposed visit, as processing time may vary depending on the required security clearances.

Foreign nationals already in India should apply to the jurisdictional FRRO at least 15 days in advance. Citizens of Bhutan are exempt from this requirement.

No foreign national may enter or reside in such areas without the prior permission of the competent Civil Authority.
