The Indian Tricolour was proudly hoisted at Centenary Square, beside the iconic Birmingham Council House, marking India’s 80th Independence Day and celebrating the enduring bonds of friendship between India and the United Kingdom.

The Tricolour was jointly hoisted by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zaker Choudhry MBE, and Consul General of India, Birmingham, Dr Venkatachalam Murugan, in the presence of members of the Indian community and friends of India who gathered in large numbers to witness this proud and historic moment.

The vibrant gathering reflected the deep affection and connection of the Indian diaspora with India, as the Tricolour fluttered proudly against the backdrop of one of Birmingham’s most iconic landmarks.

The Consulate General of India, Birmingham, expressed its sincere gratitude to Birmingham City Council and the Lord Mayor of Birmingham for their support and cooperation in making the celebration of India’s 80th Independence Day truly special.

The hoisting of the Tricolour at Centenary Square stands as a powerful symbol of the strong people-to-people ties, mutual respect and shared values that continue to strengthen the India–UK partnership.
