The Consulate General of India, Birmingham celebrated the 11th Ayurveda Day on 23 September 2026, with the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow – Evidence, Research and Innovation in Ayurveda.”

The programme brought together Ayurveda practitioners, experts, members of the Indian community and Friends of India to highlight the relevance of Ayurveda in contemporary healthcare and its growing global significance.

A panel discussion featuring eminent Ayurveda specialists from the Midlands explored the benefits, contemporary relevance and evolving role of Ayurveda, with particular focus on evidence, research, innovation and integrative approaches to healthcare.

Consul General Dr M. Venkatachalam Murugan also inaugurated an exhibition titled “Promoting and Positioning Ayurveda at the Global Forefront of Healthcare.” The exhibition showcased the rich heritage, holistic principles and contemporary applications of Ayurveda, providing an opportunity for guests to learn more about India's traditional system of healthcare.

The celebrations concluded with a healthy millet-based dinner, highlighting the nutritional value, versatility and growing relevance of millets as part of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

The event reaffirmed the Consulate's efforts to promote India's rich knowledge traditions and strengthen awareness of Ayurveda and its contemporary applications in the UK.
